Ecem Özdemir

Ecem Özdemir, MSc, RN is a Research Assistant at Ankara University Faculty of Nursing, Türkiye, and a PhD candidate in Fundamentals of Nursing at Hacettepe University. She has more than five years of clinical nursing experience, including four years in a tertiary intensive care unit, where she developed a particular interest in the care of critically ill patients requiring mechanical ventilation.

Her research focuses on medical device-related pressure injuries, particularly endotracheal tube-related oral mucosal membrane pressure injuries, as well as patient safety, risk assessment, and pressure injury prevention. Her doctoral research investigates strategies for preventing oral mucosal pressure injuries associated with endotracheal tubes, including the optimisation of tube repositioning practices.

She has contributed to research on the prevalence, risk factors, assessment, and prevention of endotracheal tube-related oral mucosal injuries and is involved in the development of an innovative sensorised anti-pressure endotracheal tube holder designed to reduce pressure-related complications in critically ill patients. In 2024, she received the EPUAP Innovation in Care Award in recognition of her work in this field.

Her academic and clinical interests are centred on translating evidence into practical prevention strategies and improving the safety and quality of care for patients at risk of pressure injuries.
