Professor Nils Lahmann obtained his degree in Nursing Management in 2000 after having worked as a registered nurse in acute and intensive care hospital settings in Germany and England. Prevalence, risk factors, and epidemiology of care problems such as pressure ulcers, falls, and incontinence were core focuses of his PhD thesis, which he completed in 2006, followed by a Master of Science in Epidemiology in 2009 and his postdoctoral qualification (Habilitation) in 2012. Since 2001, he has managed and analyzed annual national prevalence studies of major care problems across acute hospitals, nursing homes, and home care environments. Since 2016, he has served as the Deputy Director of the Geriatrics Research Group (Forschungsgruppe Geriatrie) at the Klinik für Geriatrie und Altersmedizin at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, where he leads the Department of Digitization & Nursing Research. Key research interests of Nils Lahmann focus on empirical care research, the epidemiology of institutional care problems, and the development and evaluation of smart technical solutions, wearables, and medical IT applications to support geriatric care and nursing workflows. He has a special interest in user-centered design, translating research into clinical practice, and supervising international doctoral students. He serves as a member of several national and international consensus panels on pressure ulcer risk management and care data indicators. Professor Lahmann has been a Trustee of the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (EPUAP) from 2008 2020 and has chaired its Scientific Research Committee from 2018 to 2020.
