The NPIAP/EPUAP/PPPIA Guideline Governance Group (GGG) is seeking nominations for a Consumer Panel Group for the
International Pressure Injury Guideline (4th edition).
Submission deadline: December 9, 2024.
This is a document that gives advice to health workers around the world to prevent and treat pressure injuries. You can find out more at www.internationalguideline.com (or scan the QR code).
This Guideline Governance Group is a group of health experts who are making the new document. You can see who is in the group by going to the website. The experts represent:
- National Pressure Injury Advisory Panel (NPIAP)
- European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (EPUAP)
- Pan Pacific Pressure Injury Alliance (PPPIA)
The Consumer Panel Group is a group of patients and informal carers/caregivers who have personal experience with pressure injuries. The people in the group can include people who have a pressure injury now or in the past, or people who have a risk of getting a pressure injury. The people in the group can also include informal caregivers (e.g., family members, friends, neighbors, etc.) who help look after a person who has had or is trying to prevent a pressure injury. The people in the group might also include people from consumer organizations who can represent patients and informal carers.
Consumer Panel Group Members cannot have a job working for companies that manufacture products for preventing or treating pressure injures. This would be a “conflict of interest”.
Consumer Panel Group Members will:
- Read statements from the GGG that give advice on actions to take to prevent and treat pressure injuries (recommendation statements).
- Provide comments about the recommendation statements. You might do this in an email, or as comments in a Word document, or as an audio recording, or a virtual/online discussion.
- Join a discussion on the internet using your video camera and microphone to talk about your experience with pressure injuries. You would also talk about how the recommendation statements might change what you or your health worker does.
- Give some tips about how you prevent or treat pressure injuries.
- Get support and assistance to participate wherever possible.
Consumer Panel Group Members will:
- Have personal experience with pressure injuries, as a person who has had or might get a pressure injury or as an informal carer or is a professional consumer representative.
- Be able to read and speak English.
- Have enough knowledge to understand the documents or to understand when the recommendation statements are explained in a virtual/online meeting.
- Be prepared to share your own experience with the GGG and other Consumer Panel Group members.
- Be able to keep the things you read and hear to yourself (“confidential”).
- Be able to work your computer to do all or some of:
- read and reply to email
- open a Word document and/or a PDF (and preferably be able to make comments in documents)
- use a microphone, a speaker and a web browser to join a virtual/online meeting that happens on the internet (“web conference”)
- Be available to read documents and come to a maximum of three (virtual/online) meetings between December 2024 – January 2025. Our virtual/online meetings will be across lots of time zones and you will help decide the day and time we meet. Often it is in the early morning or evening.
- Not be working for a company that makes products for pressure injuries.
If you are chosen to be a Consumer Panel Group Member you will get:
