GRAHAM NICOLSON,
Ph.D, Research Fellow at the ASPIRE Centre for Disability Sciences,
University College London, Stanmore, passed away following a motorcycle
accident, 30 August 2006. Graham published one of the definitive
studies on heat and water vapor measurement in support surfaces,
and was instrumental in the development of the test method being
proposed as an ISO standard on the same. Graham’s highly personable
interaction, his powerful grasp of life science and engineering
and his ability to apply astute math and reasoning skills demonstrate
the significance of his contribution to the Science. His ability
to offer encouragement and fill the room with contagious laughter
created a lab environment where students and co-workers thrived.
Often working long hours out of ‘love of the work’,
Graham lived his life as a ‘curious fellow’, always
seeking to understand the full depth of the problem before him.
A devoted husband and an avid motorcycle enthusiast, Graham is sorely
missed by his widow Sarah and all who had the privilege of working
with or around him. Persons wishing to honor Graham, in lieu of
flowers, are requested to contribute to the Graham Nicolson Memorial
Fund.
