Dear Readers
Our knowledge on pressure ulcers prevention and
treatment has been greatly advanced since the first annual meeting
held in 1997, in Oxford. Important new findings were presented last
year in Budapest, including the final data on the EPUAP prevalence
study. The high caliber of the presentations in the setting of an
historical venue stimulated a fervent and enthusiastic discussion
involving all those present. The pivotal EPUAP prevalence study
brought together physicians and scientists from all parts of Europe
with the intent to bring pressure ulcers prevention and treatment
to the awareness of a broad range of disciplines. This is a time
of great excitement in pressure ulcers management, with a number
of new projects emerging and progress being made on many fronts.
It is our intention as a multidisciplinary group to build upon the
sterling work done by our colleagues, and to develop the EPUAP
Review as a publication that reflects and considers the very
latest progress in our field. In an age of growing electronic journals,
we produce not only a high quality product focusing only on pressure
ulcers, but also a printed material which is especially valuable
for transmitting the concepts that are so central to understanding
the management of pressure ulcers. We invite you to contribute to
the journal and hope that you find it a valuable contributor to
your practice,
Marco Romanelli
President of the EPUAP
