The EPUAP Business Office has been extremely busy over
the last few months prior to the Budapest Meeting as the office was actively
involved in organizing the meeting and producing the abstract/programme
book. The meeting was a great success and has been judged as one of our
best based on the comments of the delegates and on corporate sponsors.
More importantly we were fortunate to have Ferenc Miklosi of Budapest
Convention Bureau as the local organiser. Laszlo Gulacsi arranged this
and through both of their efforts this meeting was well planned logistically.
The CD of the beautiful concert, which was given to all attendees, has
provided a lovely memory of the time spent in Budapest.

Three site visits were made - one of which was with
corporate sponsors. One of the problem's that arose at the corporate
sponsors meeting was the problem of getting the pressure relieving
beds from the ground floor to the exhibition area upstairs as they
were larger than the lifts! This was rectified by true Hungarian
ingenuity as can be seen in the photograph.
Facilities, logistics and social events are important to a successful
meeting but the most important aspect in my opinion is the scientific
and clinical content of the programme. Michael Clark, our Recorder
should be congratulated for the planning of the programme of this
year's meeting which focused on the work of the EPUAP particularly
the European Pressure Ulcer Prevalence Study with the theme of the
meeting 'Pressure ulcers - a quality of care indicator?'

Another very
positive accomplishment of the year's meeting was the development
of relationships between the EPUAP and local Hungarian Wound Healing
Societies and also the Middle European delegates who attended. The
EPUAP along with support from Industry made it possible for a large
number of these delegates to attend at a reduced registration fee.
The success of the meeting undoubtedly is due not only to the delegates
but also to our corporate sponsors. Major events such as the banquet
(a memorable occasion!) were supported by Huntleigh HealthCare. Conference
bags were provided by Johnson & Johnson and the programme/abstract
book by ConvaTec. Two pre-conference satellite meetings 'Bacteria
in pressure ulcers - the role of silver versus traditional antimicrobial'
sponsored by Smith & Nephew and 'The treatment of pressure ulcers
from inside out' by Nutricia also proved to be very popular.
The following members of the local scientific committee were presented
with honorary membership of the EPUAP at the Hungarian Wound Healing
Day which preceded the annual EPUAP meeting. Professor Dr Janos Kiss,
Dr Attila Olah, Dr Gustav Gulyas, Dr Robert Tamas, Dr Eva Csorba,
Dr Istvan Juhasz, Dr Istvan Sugar and Prof. Dr Attila Nemes.
The enthusiasm of this year's meeting in Budapest will undoubtedly
be carried on as we can see in the photograph below with the Finnish
contingent wearing their traditional Finnish caps at the last session
where Helvi Hietanen told us about next year's meeting in Tampere,
Finland.
We look forward to seeing you there!
