EUROPEAN PRESSURE ULCER ADVISORY PANEL

The success of the last EPUAP Annual meeting in Pisa was due to the excellent local organisation of our President-elect Marco Romanelli and his colleagues as well as the superb scientific programme organised by our Recorder Gerry Bennett. In addition, the back-up support of the Oxford EPUAP Office by Jane Green and Chris Cherry contributed much to the success of this meeting.

Comments on the scientific programme by the attendees reflected the quality of the presentations of the speakers which ranged from new basic scientific studies to the practical clinical management of pressure ulcers. The excellent social events were a demonstration of Italian Hospitality (Fig.1). Obviously the meeting could not have taken place without the support of our corporate sponsors and local Italian Industry.

We continue to have requests almost daily for the EPUAP guidelines on the prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers as well as inquiries about becoming new members of the EPUAP. The EPUAP Review under the editor-ship of Michael Clark is steadily becoming a major source of news and reference material for pressure ulcers.

Several planning and programme meetings have been held for the 2001 meeting in Le Mans France under the local organisation of Denis Colin and colleagues. A copy of this year’s meeting brochure is enclosed with this issue. We look forward to receiving your abstracts, either by hard copy with disc, or via e-mail. The correct e-mail address is:

The Scientific Programme Committee has taken note of your suggestions in planning the Le Mans programme, particularly with regard to the length of presentation of free papers.

Early registration – before 30 June 2001 – will also secure you a discount. If you have friends who are not members, please ask them to fill in the membership form at the back of this issue so that they can also save money on registration for Le Mans.

The Business Office has been distributing questionnaires for the Pan European Pressure Ulcer Study (PEPUS) – Patients with hip fracture study – under the direction of Christina Lindholm and helping to co-ordinate the centres for the EPUAP Prevalence Study under Gerrie Bours and Jacqui Fletcher’s direction.
